W&W and Wykowski Farms

Both the 29-acre W&W Farm (Robert and Tammy Warger, Ed Wykowski Jr., and Shirley Ring) and the 90-acre Edward and Caroline Wykowski Farm properties on Long Plain Road are now fully protected from development by new Agricultural Preservation Restrictions (APRs) thanks to Whately Land Preservation, the Franklin Land Trust, and the Mass Department of Agricultural Resources. The farms are located on some of the most productive soils in the Valley, with a long and illustrious history of potato and vegetable growing and excellent farm management.

Ed Wykowski has been known for decades for his early potatoes, and years ago put in an underground drainage system that helps with crop conditions. The Wargers and their daughters represent a younger generation of farmers who intend to keep the farming going on both properties. The farms are adjacent to other APR land and together constitute one of the largest continuous stretches of open vegetable land in the region. The challenge now is to make the final payment for the project-- $60,000 is needed.
